Undergraduate - FAQ

1.     What requirements must I meet in order to apply?    

    Be an underrepresented and/or minority, or low-income, college student.

    Undergraduate freshman, sophomore, or junior.

    Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA 

    Contemplating a career in biomedical-related sciences.

    Successful completion of college-level biology and/or introductory chemistry.

 

2.     When is the application deadline?

    Application is due February 06, 2017

 

3.     When will I find out when I got in or not?

    You can expect to hear from us end of April 2017.

 

4.     When does the program begin/end?

We have two program schedules to accommodate students on either the quarter or semester system.

            Semester system

            o        Program begins: May 22nd, 2017

            o        Program ends: August 11th, 2017

            Quarter system

            o        Program begins: June 19th, 2017

            o        Program ends: September 8th, 2017

 

5.     Do I have to have prior research experience?

    No prior research experience is necessary.

 

6.     Where do I send supplemental application materials (Letters of Recommendation, Transcripts, etc)

7.    Who can write letters of recommendation? Can family members write letters of recommendation?

Professors, supervisors, mentors, etc.- anyone who can accurately evaluate your strengths. Family members cannot write letters of recommendation.

 

8.     Is there an interview process?

There is no interview process.

 

9.     Is housing available?

UCRTP does not provide housing for students.

 

10. What if I live out of state? Do I get reimbursed for travel expenses?

Out of state students are not reimbursed for travel expenses.

 

11. Since housing is not available, is a housing allowance provided?

Housing allowances are not provided.

 

12. How much does the program cost?

 The program does not have a cost for students.
